Re-Mind: That is To Gently Allow Back into Your Mind and Body

Re-Minding, as my clients have effectively found in our coaching, is a full body experience. Re-Mindng is not just experienced in thought, but in bodily sensations and physical embodiment.

When I ask a client Re-Mind themselves of who they were being (ie thinking, feeling) when they felt strength or confidence or the ability to make decisions, for example, what I am asking them to do are several simple behaviors:

Slow Down

*This can be done in any manner you choose. The key is to include the body in order to include the mind. I have found that when you sit still, literally, breathe, and then gently tune into the stillness you have just invited your mind is given room to follow suit. Try it.

Focus

*Then, when you feel yourself slowing down, see if you can gently direct your focus on the question, “When did I feel strength or confidence or ability to make decisions, etc.? And, who was I being while I felt those things?” It’s okay if you’re not perfect here. A light effort is all.

Allow

*What may happen are resistant thoughts similar to “I don’t know!” or “This is stupid!” or some variation of a very familiar internal push back. Great! If you allow yourself to go through that struggle and peek underneath, you’ll most likely find one or more images/moments arising in ‘answer’ to your self-imposed question. Allow that & respect even the seemingly insignificant as well as the clearest one to emerge.

Choose

*At this point, while maintaining the sensation of slowing down, choose from among those images/moments the one that creates the most connection. Understand I believe, whichever one you choose will be the ‘right’ one. There is no right answer.

Embody

*With your chosen image/moment in mind, slowly describe to yourself, out loud, as many details as you can recall. The ‘out loud is important as it helps to hear yourself. For example, what happened? Who was I with? What was I doing? How was I thinking about the situation? How was I thinking about myself ie. how was I being? What do I recall via my 5 senses?

As you explore, pay specific attention to how your answers begin to manifest and live in your body, mind, and emotions?

Now Here’s the Key:

When you sense ANY change, make note of exactly what position your body is in: For example, have you lifted your head up slightly? Have you gone from sitting to standing? Have you uncrossed your legs? Does you voice feel stronger? Etc. Be as specific as possible. Look in the mirror if necessary!

What you have just found is your personal physical embodiment of strength, confidence, ability to make decisions, etc.!

So now when you want to Re-Mind yourself (That is To Gently Allow Back into Your Mind and Body), you can assume your personal physical embodiment to reawaken those mental and bodily sensations!!

Did this resonate? I’d love to hear your thoughts…
